Lyn May, born Lilia Guadalupe Mendiola Mayares in 1952 in Acapulco, Mexico, faced a difficult childhood. Her family struggled financially, forcing her to sell souvenirs to tourists just to make ends meet. This humble beginning, however, laid the foundation for a life that would later be filled with glitz, scandal, and an unwavering spirit.
Her first brush with romance came when she met an American sailor—thirty years her senior—while working as a waitress. Their love led to marriage, children, and a move to Mexico City. However, the fairy tale quickly crumbled when Lyn accused her husband of abuse, leading to their separation.
After her divorce, Lyn found herself back in Acapulco, where she started her career as a dancer. Her exotic looks and graceful movements caught the attention of television producers, leading to appearances on Siempre en Domingo, a hugely popular show in Mexico.
As her fame grew, she received an offer from Enrique Lombardini to join burlesque performances at the prestigious Teatro Esperanza Iris. Initially hesitant, Lyn eventually embraced the world of burlesque, transforming into a sensual and fearless performer. Her bold presence landed her roles in the Ficheras films of the 1970s and 1980s—a genre of risqué comedy that made her one of Mexico’s most recognized sex symbols.
As Ficheras films lost popularity, Lyn’s career also took a downturn. But her biggest personal crisis came not from fading fame but from a tragic cosmetic procedure gone wrong.
In an effort to maintain her youthful beauty, she opted for a seemingly routine collagen injection. But instead of collagen, a fraudulent practitioner injected cooking oil into her face. The result was devastating—permanent facial disfigurement that multiple corrective surgeries could never fully fix.
Despite her on-screen boldness, Lyn May’s personal life was marked by profound sadness. After divorcing her first husband, she married businessman Antonio Chi Su in 1989. The couple started a Chinese restaurant together, but happiness was short-lived when Chi Su passed away from prostate cancer in 2008.
Grief consumed her, and in a shocking revelation, Lyn admitted to exhuming his body and sleeping next to it as she struggled to cope with his loss.
Lyn also claimed to have had an affair with a former Mexican president, though she never revealed his name. In 2008, she married film producer Guillermo Calderón Stell, and they remained together until his death in 2018.
At the age of 68, Lyn May stunned the world when she announced she was pregnant with her 29-year-old fiancé, Markos D1. The revelation sparked widespread skepticism. Many believed it was a publicity stunt to promote her upcoming farewell tour, and later, Lyn admitted that the news was not entirely true.
Even after decades in the limelight, Lyn May remains an icon. She continues to make appearances in music videos, TV shows, and documentaries, proving that she is more than just a burlesque legend—she is a survivor.
Her story is one of fame, heartbreak, and resilience, showing that despite life’s harshest blows, she has always found a way to reclaim her narrative and continue captivating audiences.
